Fremont Treasurer Announces Retirement After Primary Election

Fremont County Treasurer Patricia McCoy announced her retirement from the post to the county Republican Central Committee Wednesday night. Her resignation was effective today.

McCoy has served as county treasurer since 1986. She began working for Fremont County in 1975. McCoy changed from the Democratic to Republican party in 2010.

Fremont County Republican Central Committee Vice-Chairman Neil Stoddard says the party will accept nominations from people interested in the post until 5 p.m. Friday, June 1.. The committee will interview candidates June 4 and submit a list of three nominees to the County Commission. That board will choose a successor in mid-June.

The job pays $54,000 per year. Those interested in applying must be Fremont County residents for one year and be a registered Republican. Applications should be sent by e-mail to goldl@byui.edu.

Fremont County Clerk Abbie Mace says the announcement came after the May primary election because if it had come before, an appointee would have faced voter confirmation and a possible opponent in November. As it is, the new appointee won’t be up for voter approval until 2014.
