Teton Students Take Part In Nationwide Sleep Study
Teton County School District 1 middle and high school students are being surveyed about teens’ sleeping habits.
The study is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Teton County school district is trying out later start times for students next year. Earlier in May, the School Board unanimously voted to move back school start times for both the high school and middle school students in an effort to help students get more sleep.
The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports that students are being given the survey this month to establish baseline data.
The survey focuses on drowsy driving, depression, academics and social outcomes. The surveys will be given each year of the district’s three-year trial period for the later start times.
Superintendent Pam Shea says teachers, administrators and parents also will be surveyed on their thoughts about student sleep habits.
