Bureau of Land Management identifies Charlotte Fire public land boundaries

As landowners whose property was damaged in the Charlotte fire near Pocatello begin to rebuild, the Bureau of Land Management reports it has discovered both pre-existing and newly constructed improvements on public lands.

A BLM Cadastral Survey crew has completed a retracement survey, marking the perimeter of the public lands affected by the fire. Public land boundaries have been marked with fiberglass markers in an effort to help the public and landowners identify the BLM boundaries.

BLM Pocatello Field Manager Dave Pacioretty said all private improvements must be placed on private land. And, he’s encouraging landowners adjacent to the Charlotte fire to obtain a private land survey prior to building any structures. “We hope that marking the boundaries of the public lands will help prevent this from happening in the future.”

Pacioretty said new private construction or reconstruction crossing onto public lands will be considered trespassing and will be subject to relocation of construction as well as other administrative procedures.
