4 rescued from Henry’s Lake

Four people were rescued from the cliffs on the east side of Henry’s Lake Friday night.

An Idaho Falls man and three kids age 21 to 8 were boating in an aluminum jet boat when they signaled for help, Fremont County Search and Rescue said.

The winds were strong causing choppy waves and mist spray, according to a news release. The stranded boat was pushed to the cliffs on the east side of Henry’s Lake. They abandoned the boat and climbed up the cliffs

Temperatures were just above freezing when search and rescue crews put boats in the water. The first boat started taking on water and a second boat was needed.

Rescue crews were able to bring the four stranded boaters to shore.

The original stranded boat had taken on water and had capsized as it was being towed back to the docks. The first search boat was bailed out but completely filled with water and capsized while being towed back.

When the operation was over several hours later the temperatures had dropped to 18 degrees.

Search and Rescue officials warn this is a dangerous time of year to be boating on Henry’s Lake.
