More details released in alert for armed man

Police have released the name of the man who prompted an alert call to some Idaho Falls residents Sunday morning. Officers said the man was armed with a gun and was making threats.

Andrew Todd Ellis of Idaho Falls was arrested on charges of disturbing the peace, resisting and obstructing officer and unlawful entry.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of Washburn Avenue around 5 a.m. for a report of a disturbance. The reporting party said Ellis had threatened her and broke beer bottles against the front door. Ellis also unlawfully entered the home and confronted a person there, police said.

Police were called and Ellis immediately fled the residence. Police were told that Ellis was armed with a gun. He called the reporting party several times, including once while police were there, making threats that he was going to shoot someone.

Officers searched the area for Ellis. One officer called Ellis on the phone and was able to de-escalate the situation. Ellis was taken into custody, with some resistance, at Olympia and Washburn Ave. He did not have a gun at the time of arrest.

Ellis was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for a medical clearance.
