Idaho Falls City Council adopts budget

With a 6-1 vote, the Idaho Falls City Council passed the $185 million budget Thursday night for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

During the meeting, several city employees shared their displeasure with the council’s decision to change employee benefit plans. The plan would require employees to pay a percentage of their premium for dependents.

Police Officer Kyle Christopherson spoke during the public hearing.

“We can’t compete here, we fall further and further behind.” said Christopherson.

There are currently two options on the table for the benefit plan, and a decision is expected early next week.
