Firefighters say appliances caused house fire

A homeowner was forced to stay in a hotel after their house caught on fire Saturday.

Firefighters responded to a house on the 1400 block of Scorpius Drive in Idaho falls around 9 a.m. When they arrived, fire officials said there was fire and smoke coming from the chimney and plumbing vents.

Investigators believe the fire started in the mechanical room, possibly caused by a blockage or short in the gas furnace.

As a precaution, firefighters say it is best to service all heating appliances as the seasons change.
