Documentary features Indian relay racing

Here’s an idea for Saturday night entertainment: Go to the Shoshone-Bannock Convention Center for the 6 p.m. showing of a documentary on Indian relay racing.

In this kind of racing, tribal members race thoroughbred horses riding bareback. After one lap, they jump off one horse and onto another and race around the track again. It’s the most perilous form of horse racing anywhere.

The documentary is put together by the Montana PBS and features three members of the Sho-Ban tribes: Leo Teton, Lance Tissidimit and Alonzo Coby.

This viewing is free to the public and is a way to watch Indian relay racing inside, where it’s warm, and there are snacks and prizes.
