Boy Scouts-LDS church alliance hits 100 years
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Boy Scouts of America will celebrate 100 years of partnership with an event Tuesday night at the LDS conference center in Salt Lake City
The presentation at 7 p.m, called “A Century of Honor,” will feature songs from a Boy Scouts choir, historical reenactments and videos showing important historical events. It will be broadcast live around the county in English and Spanish on byutv.org and scouts100.lds.org. Mormon church leaders and national Boy Scouts leaders are expected to attend.
The bond between the two organizations was born in the early 1900s from mutual values and principles.
In May, the church threw its support behind the Boy Scouts’ new policy that allows gay youth to join the ranks, while continuing to ban gay adult Scout leaders.
