EIPHD kicks off breastfeeding awareness week

The Eastern Idaho Public Health District is kicking off breastfeeding awareness week with its annual picnic in the park event.

The free event was held in Kate Curley park Friday afternoon. People could learn more about breastfeeding or celebrate it as the standard for infant feeding. There was a variety of educational booths, family-friendly vendors, games and other activities. One local mom talked about the public’s perception of breastfeeding.

“More and more people are scared and ashamed to breastfeed in public. They are more worried about what people are going to think and say and they feel like they need to hide,” said Whitney Jensen.

This is the 11th annual picnic in the park event.
