Free smoke, carbon monoxide detectors for needy
The Pocatello Fire Department has partnered with Lowe’s to give smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to those who can’t afford them.
Lowe’s recently donated 250 detectors to the Fire Department at an estimated value of $2,500.
Firefighters say people can have as little as two minutes to get out of a burning home and that smoke detectors remain the most reliable early warning sign.
“Two-thirds of fire deaths that occur occur in homes without working smoke detectors, and so by providing people that would otherwise be unable to install their own smoke detectors with a working detector, we’re hoping to reduce the number of deaths and injuries by fire,” said Capt. Ryan O’Hearn, with the Fire Department.
