IF City Council to rewrite proposed animal ordinance

The Idaho Falls City Council has decided to redraft and reword a proposed animal ordinance that would limit the number of dogs residents can have. The council made the decision at a meeting Thursday evening.

The proposed ordinance allows people to have a maximum of three dogs. Currently owners can have up to five dogs as long as they had a non-commercial kennel license, but 75 percent of their neighbors had to give them permission. The City Council said the proposed ordinance will get rid of kennel licenses. City Councilman Ed Marohn said this will cut down on complications and comply with state law.

“I would say early part of January or February we should have the ordinance back to the council for a full vote. We will work for the entire council, and work session to get the language better and make some minor changes to make it more fair,” Marohn said.
