Tech school looks to combat district overcrowding

Bonneville Joint School District 93 Board of Trustees are working toward a plan to solve the overcrowding issue in the high schools. After several failed attempts, the school board has presented a 2015 bond amount that is significantly lower and a shorter term than the previous attempt to solve this issue.

Even if the bond passes this year, the district has looked for a temporary solution to overcrowding. Technical Careers High School has taken on many students in recent years and plans to add several new programs. The district is encouraging students who would thrive in a hands-on environment to enroll for the 2015-2016 school year.

“I think students that choose to come here that are really interested in the fields that we’re doing will really excel when they come here,” said Principal Craig Miller. “If we get enough students to enroll and realize that they can choose to come here and get a great education at a accredited school, I think it would help with a lot of the overcrowding issues.”

Technical Careers High School offers trade-skill learning in auto body collision & refinishing, auto technology, construction, electronics & energy systems technology and welding. The school will have three additional programs, cosmetology, agricultural studies and information technology next year.

Open enrollment is available until the end of February.
