Dickinson Frozen Foods to pay EPA fine
A Sugar City company has agreed to pay a $20,150 fine for violating federal environmental protection laws.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday that Dickinson Frozen Foods released 500 pounds of anhydrous ammonia and failed to immediately notify federal and state authorities. The release occurred on February 15, 2014.
EPA said the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act require companies to immediately report unregulated releases that exceed the reportable quantity. The limit on ammonia is 100 pounds.
The company agreed to the settlement reached Dec. 5.
