Dancer wins Distinguished Student Award

As she spends her last few days at Compass Academy, Victoria Grant reflects on why she enjoys the school’s unique teaching style.

“I really liked that it was project-based learning and that we were addressing real-world situations and that we were able to help the community with our learning and not just do work sheets and tests,” Grant said.

An example of project-based learning are the murals in the pediatric ward of Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Grant designed the murals and helped paint them.

One of Grant’s biggest passions in life is dancing. She’s gone to Dance Tech Academy for 14 years.

“My favorite thing about dance is definitely the fact that I am able to just kind of release myself more than I can when I’m not dancing,” Grant said. “When I dance I’m able to be free and express emotions that I’m not comfortable with sharing otherwise. All the girls I dance with — they are my family and the instructors are the most amazing women I’ve ever met. They have influenced my life so much.”

Grant has a 4.0 GPA.

“The work spent making sure I got those good grades really helped me to grow as a person and gave me a very good work ethic as well,” Grant said.

Grant is also a leader in the Job’s Daughters organization where fundraising for children with hearing impairments has been especially rewarding.

“I’ve been able to see some of the kids who have benefited from this fund and it’s just so amazing,” Grant said.
