IFPD looking to enhance body camera program

There’s been a nationwide push for police body cameras.

The Idaho Falls Police Department has been using them for about four years now and is looking to enhance the program by getting newer cameras.

IFPD officers aren’t required to wear the cameras: it’s voluntary, so officers who want to wear the cameras can. Idaho Falls Chief of Police Mark McBride said the plan is to keep it that way.

The chief also says these cameras are a helpful tool for police and the public.

“Strengthens the support of law enforcement through strategies, strengthens the support of your community, so it tends to build those relationships in your community,” said McBride. “They know there is going to be an open source of information should they need it or question the action of the police or public.”

Currently, there are about 30 body cameras being used by IFPD officers.
