Basketball tournament promotes carbon poisoning awareness
More than 50 teams turned out to the Holt Arena parking lot Friday afternoon for the second annual Bill Parrish Family Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.
Funds raised during the two-day tournament go to raise awareness about carbon monoxide poisoning after four members of the Parrish family passed away from carbon poisoning at their Pocatello home in February 2014.
“We want to remember them and also use the tragedy to make sure that doesn’t happen to anybody else,” said Fred Parrish, who organized the tournament in conjunction with the Chubbuck Lions Club.
“Anybody who knew Bill, Bill was a basketball lover,” said Parrish.
During the tournament, Parrish said they will be giving away 100 free carbon monoxide detectors to those who need them.
“We want a carbon monoxide detector in every home,” said Parrish.
The tournament continues Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
