Lieutenant Governor’s Education Task Force takes comments on critical race theory

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) -The Idaho Lieutenant Governor’s Education Task Force took comments on critical race theory in our classrooms Thursday.

You can watch a live stream of the meeting below.

For the first time, Janice McGeachin heard from the public as part of her examination of what she calls indoctrination in Idaho education.

Critical race theory holds that racism is systemic in the nation’s institutions and that it maintains the dominance of white people in society.

Governor Brad Little signed a law to ban the teaching of critical race theory in public schools last may.

Those who spoke in Boise, like Kayla Dunn, were passionate about what our children are learning in american history.

"Dumbing down education isn't the answer. And you know what else isn't the answer telling black people that they are inferior by suggesting they are oppressed simply because of their skin color. That is discrimination and that is racist."

The new law prohibits public schools from teaching that, "any sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin is inherently superior or inferior," which, according to the bill, is often found in "Critical race theory."

Tonight the Idaho Statesman is reporting an Ada County judge ruled today McGeachin must release public records related to the task force to a group of reporters who sued after their request was denied.

The judge also ordered she pay the legal fees and a $750 fine "for denying the records deliberately an in bad faith."
