Madison school district is promoting to ‘Keep the Lights On’
A survey was given to the parents of students in Madison School District. The results show the new after school program is helping students become excited about school.
In Madison School District, when the final bell rings, learning doesn’t end.
Student, Esther Loveland said, “Last year I was new so the after school program helped me come closer to new friends.”
The “Keep the Lights On” program is promoting their new session of after school activities.
“I’m able to do my homework after school,” said Loveland.
Besides studying, it’s an opportunity for students to be social.
“You’re going to a class with people that might have a similar interest to you,” said student Jacob Hammer. “Because there’s all these kids in Minecraft so they also like Minecraft. It’s a topic you can talk about and it kind of breaks the ice for you.”
Each day a new activity is introduced to students.
Ashley Wheeler, Kennedy Elementary after school coordinator, said, “They get so excited and that little light of confidence comes into their eyes and they feel so good about themselves.”
“I did photography and I have a really good knack for it,” Hammer said. “I got 3rd in a state photography contest.”
“My favorite part is seeing kids expand their view of themselves, to a point where they think they can do things they didn’t think they could do before,” said Sherri Erickson, junior high after school coordinator. “That’s my favorite thing.”
The new after school session begins Nov. 2.
