County Commissioners create advisory group to decide on jail bond

Last month, a public meeting was held at the Bannock County Courthouse to vote on a possible jail bond election. This month, County Commissioners have created an advisory group for the purpose of brainstorming possible decisions on the jail.

County Commissioner Howard Manwearing says commissioners wanted to take a step back to think about ways to go about expanding the jail, or, developing a treatment center.

The idea of the treatment center comes after long reports of there being an over amount of drug abusers currently in jail.

Manwearing says that’s the reason why the Bannock County Jail is overcrowded. He says there will be a meeting next Wednesday for the advisory group to meet and express their views on it.

If it’s decided to go with a bond, it will be placed on the May or November ballot of next year.
