Counties and landowners fight to move Gateway project
Power County commissioners met Monday afternoon in American Falls with the head of the landowners who are fighting to move the new power line that’s part of the Gateway project.
Since the Gateway project was announced, there has been strong opposition from private landowners.
Those in Power County whose land would be affected want to move the power line and keep it all on public land. They feel that because it’s a public project, it should remain on public land.
Landowners are working with Cassia County and Power County to come up with enough money to move it.
Both Cassia and Power counties are budgeting $12,000 for the project. The landowners are working to raise the same amount for their share.
The meeting Monday afternoon was a progress meeting to make sure everything is still on track.
The landowners are expected to hold a meeting next month to try and raise more support.
