Your pets and Fourth of July fireworks
Humans may love the flash and bang of fireworks on the Fourth of July, but furry friends do not.
Pets are scared of fireworks. It causes them to panic and try to escape the confines of their yard or house. Animal shelters always see a staggering increase of runaway pets during the holiday. Idaho Falls Animal Services has a few tips people can do to keep pets safe, inside their homes, and comfortable.
“Just leave your dog home. Put him in the basement. Put him in a quite, cool room. Turn on some background noise so it drowns out the outside noises so that they’re not as frightened. Microchipping is also very important. They could lose their collars. Somebody could catch them and remove the collar. So a microchip is a tag they can’t lose. It’s embedded in under their skins so that helps us reunite animals with their owners,” said animal control officer Laramie Pancheri.
If a pet does stray away from home, visit or contact the local shelter as soon as possible. If anyone finds a lost animal, take it to a shelter immediately.
People can post information on lost or found pets on the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter Facebook page.
