CrossFit Gym in Ammon hosts memorial workout for fallen officers
With the Dallas police shootings still fresh in everybody’s minds, one local gym decided to show their support for the men and woman in blue in a unique way. CrossFit edify in Ammon hosted a memorial workout in honor of the 5 police officers killed last week in Dallas.
“We have people who work on the police force here at CrossFit Edify, and this is our way of honoring people who have put their lives on the line everyday for our country,” said Marc Hirsch, one of the trainers at the gym.
The memorial workout was different from regular CrossFit routines in that it started with a word of prayer, and included 5 minutes of silence to remember the fallen Dallas police officers.
Those who participated said showing support to law enforcement is something that’s important to them.
“I have friends who’s husbands serve in the Dallas Police Department. They do so much and sacrifice so much in their personal lives to protect those around them. We’re just so grateful for those police officers,” said Erica Tuttle who came to the memorial workout.
“It’s really, really important for me to show my support for their families and for their (Dallas Police) department and all the departments in the United States,” said Matt Birchfield who also participated in the memorial workout.
One police officer who came to the CrossFit memorial session said having the community’s support makes all the difference for their jobs.
“I think knowing that the community backs what we do is critically important,” said Officer Jimmy Koller of the Rexburg Police Department. “We’re the ones that do our best to serve and protect them. So it’s good to know that they (the community) have our backs and support what we’re doing out there.”
