Local dog wins big international dog show in Mexico
We have an international dog show winner that lives in our backyard. The No. 1 Pekingese in the nation was bred locally in Shelley. The Champion of Champions of the Americas and Caribbean is a 3-year-old Pekingese, and his name is Parry.
Parry competed in the Blackfoot Dog Show a month ago and won the Toy Group. He has been competing since he was 6-months-old and comes from a long line of dog show winners.
“I’m standing there going, this could really happen. And he’s standing there waiting just patiently. And when they announced us, the crowd just went wild,” said Parry’s co-owner and handler, Tim Reese.
A fan-favorite at the Champion of Champions of the Americas and Caribbean Dog Show, Parry won multiple titles before being invited to — and winning — this prestigious dog show in Mexico.
“No I’m not shocked, I’m thrilled. He is the culmination of 28 years of breeding Pekingese. We have been the top breeder of this breed in the United States for the last 12 years,” said Reese.
All breeds of dogs were in one lump category and competed against each other in multiple elimination rounds. Out of hundreds of dogs, Parry was named Champion of Champions.
“One of the things that all the judges say about Parry is that when they stand and look at him — and he’s on the ground — he stands on his own, he wags his tail at them. And they say that’s just so unusual, he’s saying ‘look at me, look at me, don’t ignore me.'” Reese said.
And since this dog show started in 1947, no dog has ever received a score of 100 points in any section of competition — until now.
“Parry received three 100s {score} in the first three competitions. But the president of the FCI gave his first 100 to us. Never has he ever given a 100,” Reese said.
Parry has a new name to add to his long list of distinguished titles: he is now the American Champion, Grand Champion, Mexican Champion, Mexican Grand Champion and International FCI Champion.
This international dog show is held once every five years.
