Rexburg’s first annual Heritage Festival

Rexburg welcomed their first “Heritage Festival” Saturday. The event was created to bring people in the community together and to showcase what the community has to offer.

The city is planning on having the Heritage Festival become an annual event and intend for it to grow each year as more and more community members become involved.

Community members, along with Brigham Young University students, enjoyed a tractor parade, museum tour, flag football, live band, potato bar and line dancing. All the events were free.

The event also hosted a friendly chili cook off, and once the judges got their taste and gave their scores, people were able to pick their choice of chili and add the finishing topping to their potatoes.

Rexburg City Council member Brad Wolfe had the daunting task of judging the Chili eating contest.

“I’ve had worse, eating 12 or 15 homemade chilis wasn’t so bad. I’ve never tasted so many different types of chili,” Wolfe said.

The winner for the chili contest took home a $50 gift card and an apron.

Rindi Remington stopped by with her family to see what the event had to offer.

“We came here to see what this town’s all about, we’ve only lived here for a few years and we wanted to see our friends and do some of the activities. And have a good time,” Remington said.

Eric Isaacson came to the festival to get the word out about his online business, Free Arenas.com.

“There’s a lot of people around here that like to hike, bike, swim, camp and do a lot of outdoor stuff, but they don’t know where to go. Especially new students to the area, they might have known where everything was back home, but now they know where nothing is. So what Free Arenas.com does is allow people to play like a local where ever they go,” Isaacson said.

He also said events like these help students and locals find out what Rexburg has to offer.
