Traffic signal at 1st and Freeman being removed for safety reasons
Crews from the Idaho Falls Public Works Department will be removing the hanging traffic light from 1st and Freeman Avenue Thursday morning.
The removal of the light was discussed at a city council work session on November 7th. The light poses a safety hazard since the poles supporting the light are aging and are likely to fail.
The traffic signal does not meet traffic warrants and therefore will be replaced with stop signs on the minor street (Freeman Avenue) approaches. The stop signs will have blinking LED lights around the border for greater visibility.
