Hot ashes catch side of Ammon home on fire
UPDATE 2:09 a.m.: The Ammon Fire Department says no one was hurt when a small fire broke out at a home on Falcon Drive around 1:00 a.m. Sunday.
According to Deputy Chief Keith Banda, the fire was started by hot ashes from a fireplace that were placed into a trash can. Banda said the trash can burnt to the ground and the fire spread to the siding of the home. The damage was minor, according to Banda.
The Ammon Fire Department reminds homeowners that as the temperatures drop, they should take extra care with ashes from fireplaces and wood burning stoves. Banda says to put the ashes in a metal trash can, far away from the house and monitor them for a couple days before completely disposing of them.
