Murder suspect and companion appear in court
The Bonneville County man accused of murder and a woman he is said to have been having an affair with appeared in court Monday afternoon.
Jeremy White, the suspect in the murder of Christin Caldwell, appeared before the judge via video from the Bonneville County jail on second-degree murder charges. White had little to say during the court hearing. Deena Aday is charged with accessory to a felony for being with White after Caldwell’s death and not turning him in.
Magistrate Judge L. Mark Riddoch read the charges to both White and Aday. Both told the judge they understood the charges.
The judge set bond for both during the hearing. White is being held on a $600,000 bond while Aday is being held on a $200,000 bond.
An attorney hired to represent Aday, Kristopher Meek, requested that her bond be reduced. Riddoch told Meek a separate bond hearing would need to be held. A public defender was appointed to represent White.
Riddoch also issued a no-contact order for White involving the victim’s three adult children.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office says White strangled Caldwell and buried her in the dirt basement of their home after his affair with Aday was discovered by Caldwell.
Members of Caldwell’s family were in the courtroom for the hearing. The were emotional, crying as White’s bond and preliminary hearing dates were set.
Both Aday and White will be back in court on Dec. 16.
