Spudnik’s new harvesting tools
Spudnik is rolling out some new equipment for 2017 and just in time to go along with the AG Expo. Spudnik originated in Blackfoot 60 years ago and has become an industry leader in potato equipment.
“This area’s been good to Spudnik, and Spudnik’s been good to this area,” said Cory Steidley, Spudnik’s sales director.
The company has two newer technologies its releasing this year. The Crop Cart — one that can be used for several different crops.
“One of the things that is different about our’s, is we are trying to hit a market that allows us to satisfy many needs. They can use it for wheat, corn, potatoes,” Steidley said.
And the AirSep — a tool that separates rocks and weeds from the potatoes harvested.
“It provides a different tool for our customers so they can clean the product up and deliver a better product to their customers,” Steidley said.
With 300 employees living in southeastern Idaho, Spudnik is a big contributor to the local economy.
“We’re only here because of our customers. You know, the potato farmers here in Idaho, Washington, Colorado, Wisconsin. They’re really what allows us to do what we do. Agriculture is the lifeblood of this community. Without it, we’re not here,” Steidley said.
The company is also working on building sugar beet equipment. It’s expecting to officially come out with those tools in the next two years.
