Small earthquake hits southwestern Montana

A small earthquake rattled portions of southwestern Montana Thursday afternoon.

The USGS National Earthquake Information Center and the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology reported a magnitude 3.1 quake just after 1:52 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.

The quake was centered about 15 miles northwest of the town of Ennis , near Mt. Bradley .

The quake’s epicenter depth was around 4.8 miles
