Rexburg continues to grow
The 2000 U.S. census reported Rexburg’s estimated population to be 17,792 and by the 2010 census, the population grew to 25,464, approximately a 69 percent increase over 10 years. Rexburg’s growth sits well above the national population growth rate of 8.8 percent and the Idaho State population growth rate 18.9 percent for the same 10 year period.
As a whole, Rexburg ranks 10th in the state in population, and Madison County is the fourth-fastest growing county in Idaho. With a population of just over 30,000, Rexburg is one of the fastest growing cities in Idaho with 49.6 percent of the population between the ages of 20 and 45.
Madison County’s population increased 32 percent between 2002 and 2012, primarily because of the 2004 conversion of Ricks College a two year junior college to Brigham Young University-Idaho. BYU-Idaho continues to experience high enrollment rates, driving economic growth within Rexburg and Madison County. The City of Rexburg has grown significantly in the last decade and is projecting high volumes of growth to come.
The city is currently working on an airport project that will accommodate general aviation and better suit corporate business travelers along with expansion of the university.
