Big Brothers Big Sisters program raises funds
How would you like to help young people in our community who are facing adversity get matched up with an adult role model ?
The good news is you can by participating in a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Idaho.
10 year-old Benleigh says it’s fun having a big sister.
“We made cupcakes and went to Kiwi Loco and Orange Leaf and she comes to my basketball games,” Bentleigh said.
Bentleigh’s big sister, Ana, gets together with her several times each month.
“She’s amazing. she’s smart, beautiful and we do lots of fun stuff together,” Ana said. “It’s rewarding to see children excel through the program, and just be there for them if they have any questions, and just help them through tough times.”
Benteigh doesn’t have a mom in the home. With a dad and brothers it’s all boys, so she appreciates spending time with Ana.
“Because I can actually do girly stuff, not weird stuff with boys,” Bentleigh said.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is kicking of a fundraiser to be able to find more matches.
“We’re asking participants to create a fund raising page, much like a GoFundMe page,” case manager Olivia Lovejoy said. “They’ll create this online, and they can fund-raise either individually or as a team with friends and family.”
People can share their fund-raising site on Facebook and Twitter and encourage their friends to contribute. Lovejoy said the money goes to a wonderful organization that changes the lives of kids.
“I’ve seen an increase in their self-esteem,” Lovejoy said. “I’ve seen an improvement in their communication skills and I’ve also seen a positive sense of their future grow.”
