Pebble Creek Ski Resort preps for season
The temperatures have dropped and snow has started to blanket some areas around the region. The snowfall has some people catching winter fever and wanting to hit the slopes.
Even though there isn’t much snow on the ground yet at Pebble Creek Ski Resort in Inkom, there are still a few people making the most of the skiff of snow there is. Die-hard snowboarders and skiers can’t wait for the season to begin.
“I’m pumped,” said Matthew Tsakrios, a snowboarder and regular at Pebble Creek. “It’s going to be the best year ever for Pebble Creek.”
“Yeah, really excited,” said Sander Hadley, another regular at Pebble Creek. “Spent a few years away from this place and now I’m back and this year with all the friends so it’s off to a good start to slide some rails with them already.”
Mary Reichman, general manager at Pebble Creek, said there will be a few changes around the resort this season.
One change is going to be to the “first timer” area where beginner lessons are held. They’re going to change a few things with the lessons to help beginners become more successful on the slopes.
Another change is added night lighting, and there has also been a lot of work done to the main lift.
“A new control system, a brand new electric motor, upgrades to the hydraulic tensioning system, two new bole wheel liners for the top and bottom terminals, as well as many of the shiv – the wheels that help guide the lift up the hill – have been replaced,” said Mike Rodriguesz, lift supervisor at Pebble Creek. “So without selling it short, we’ve basically upgraded the entire lift. Rather than replace it, we’ve upgraded.”
“What people are going to notice is it rides so smooth,” Reichman added about the lift changes. “It’s actually a little bit faster.”
Reichman said Pebble Creek’s opening day depends on how much snow they get, but typically they open mid-December and right now, they are on track to do that.
The resort will have its first event Saturday, Nov. 11 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and it will be the resort’s first-ever premiere movie night. It will show two movies to help get people hyped up about the season. There will be screens indoors as well as a large screen outdoors. Reichman said there will be some snack and fire pits and it will be a fun event to get ready to kick off their season.
