Benefit concert for local boy with severe medical issues
Everett Mouser is 16-months old with a lot of energy, a smile to melt your heart and some really difficult medical issues. It doesn’t slow him down one bit, but his parents could use a little help.
Mouser seems like any normal toddler, but he was born with a cleft lip, facial paralysis and many other issues.
“We were very surprised when he was born without an ear,” Kylee Mouser, Everett’s mother, said. “And he had a heart murmur and a few other things that I wasn’t even aware of.”
Even though he’s so young, Everett has already had 88 doctor and therapy visits this year. He’s also had multiple surgeries, including some to remove a nasal tumor and fix his cleft lip. Coming up, he will have surgery to remove a tumor growing on the tip of his nose, eye surgery and cranial facial surgeries along with monitoring his heart defects. His parents take it all in stride.
“You always hope that nothing happens to you,” Mouser said. “But there’s no way to prepare for it. And when we found out, I was really nervous because I never, I mean he’s my first child, so I’ve never had to deal with anything. And having a child that has medical issues is, it’s hard and it’s scary and unknown.”
Despite these many issues, Everett is as active as any other kid his age. Talking a lot, running around the house and playing with the toys.
Local singing group, “S.O.S”, or Singers on Stage, decided to put on a benefit concert and auction for the Mousers. They want to help out the family in any way they can.
“It is overwhelmingly amazing,” Mouser said. “When we got the phone call that they asked if they could do this for Everett, I was speechless. There’s…It’s just incredible.”
The benefit concert takes place tonight, November 13th, at 7:00 at the Colonial Theater. You can also donate to a Go Fund Me page for the family here.
