New In Vitro procedure in Idaho Falls
Couples having fertility issues have a new option here locally. It’s an additional procedure to In Vitro fertilization that doctors say is effective. The process includes genetic testing. Doctors say Pre Implantation Genetic Screening is an effective solution.
“The sample goes to a company that can give you a full genetic profile of each embryo before they even get transferred back to the body, and a great thing about that is for patients that have recurrent pregnancy loss that’s related to genetic problems with those embryos that are miscarrying or for somebody that’s older, especially the female partner,” says Dr. Deirdre A. Conway, M.D.
The procedure and IVF is new to this area.
“The reason this is a big thing in this community is because really until one and a half years ago we haven’t even been able to do In Vitro fertilization in Idaho Falls or really southeast Idaho,” says Dr. Conway.
The Pack family tried other fertility treatments in the area.
“We ended up doing some fertility drugs and IUI with our OBGYN and after that failed we decided to take a more drastic approach,” says Paula Pack.
Pack went to one of Dr. Conway’s seminars and decided to set up a consultation.
“We were able to do the genetic testing on all the embryos, get those results and ensure that we were able to carry a healthy child with no chromosomal defects. So this embryo was number 19.”
Embryo number 19 is now named Leena, a healthy and playful baby girl. Something that the pack family is thankful for.
The procedure can be expensive depending on how many embryos are being screened. It could be an addition $3,000 to $5,000. If you’re interested in learning more contact Idaho Falls Fertility Center and schedule a consultation 208-529-2019 or their website https://www.idahofertility.com/
