Two Blackfoot students diagnosed with type of staph infection

Two students from Mountain View Middle School in Blackfoot came down with Impetigo over the weekend.

Impetigo is a staph infection on the skin. Officials say it is common and highly contagious and usually appears as red sores on the face, especially around a child’s nose and mouth, and on hands and feet.

Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News 3 talked to Principal Wes Jensen this afternoon, and he says they’ve contacted Southeastern Idaho Public Health.

The students with Impetigo are being kept at home and are under a doctor’s care.

Jensen said the janitorial staff is wiping everything down with a disinfectant, and they’ll keep their eyes on the situation.

Parents have been notified, and Jensen said he reminds parents to talk to their kids about washing their hands regularly.
