Organizations come together to give offenders a second chance

Everybody deserves a second chance. Local groups came together today to make that possible for those leaving the prison or the jail system looking to better themselves. They say these resources are critical.

“In reducing the recidivism rate here in Idaho. Offenders coming out of incarceration are faced with multiple obstacles, where to find a job, where to get housing, where to get clothing. And to get all these different resources that they need in order to be successful,” says Jeff Kirkman, Program Manager.

Obstacles that Sabrina Triplett faced after she was charged with felony burglary.

“When I received my charges I was on meth, drinking heavily, and I’m also a self-harmer,” says Triplett.

She says thanks to the resources in the community she turned her life around. She was even honored today for the work she now does as a mentor.

“Got my kids out of foster care, started work at the DI [Desseret Industries], did really good on felony probation, became a mentor for the free to succeed program, and I recently became a recovery coach.”

And she says it wouldn’t be possible without these resources. They plan to have more events like this in different areas of the state.
