Yellowstone fire danger now “high”
Hot, dry conditions have pushed fire danger in Yellowstone National Park to “high.”
There are no fire restrictions in the park, but campfires are only permitted in fire rings at campgrounds and in some backcountry campsites. Campfires must be extinguished and cold to touch after use.
Lightning did start a new fire near Highway 191 in the Custer-Gallatin National Forest. The Bacon Rind fire is burning in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness area about 2 miles west of Highway 191, between Bacon Rind and Snowslide Creeks. Although smoke is visible from the highway, it is not threatening the road.
