Wyoming wardens move 4 grizzlies
Wyoming Game and Fish wardens trapped and relocated an adult female grizzly and her two cubs Thursday, September 6. A second sub-adult female grizzly was captured and relocated on Friday.
The family group was captured in response to cattle depredation on private lands in the Cody region. The bear and her cubs were relocated into the Snake River drainage about 10 miles northwest of Moran Junction. The second grizzly was relocated to the Blackrock drainage about 20 miles northeast of Moran Junction.
Wyoming Game and Fish follows specific bear relocation policies to minimize conflicts between humans and grizzly bears or other large carnivores.
Once an animal is captured, all circumstances are considered in determining whether or not to relocate the animal. Those factors include the age and sex of the animal and the type of conflict it was involved in, as well as potential human activity in the vicinity. Bears deemed to be an immediate threat to human safety are not released back into the wild.
