Idaho State Police wraps up 10 Counties of Christmas

The Idaho State Police are finishing up the last of its collections for the 10 Counties of Christmas. With help from local businesses, state police have been collecting coats and money for families in need.

“The public is very giving. With the coats, food donations and just money donations, its been tremendous,” said Sgt. Chris Elverud, of Idaho State Police.

Starting in late October, state police has been spending their weekends at different Broulim’s and car dealerships across eastern Idaho.

Partnering with local businesses has helped widen ISPs helping hand.

Broulim’s is providing meals for families. Guests can buy components of a holiday meal, and state police officers will deliver to families in need.

“People just walking up and giving whatever they can give,” said Scott Zahrn, the sales manager for Broulim’s Ammon location. “We’re just so thankful for anything people can donate.”

Once ISP is finished doing collections, it will then decide where the donations will go. Officers sent applications to schools across the area to help identify needy families.

“The school really interacts with the community and they know who they are,” Elverud said. “Being involved with the state police in this program, they’ve been totally helpful identifying people.”

Donations and meals will be delivered right before Christmas.

Idaho State Police said it will still be accepting coat donations in any Broulim’s location on Saturday. If you would like to donate coats or money, you can also stop by any ISP office.
