Senate reorganization continues

The 116th Congress is finalizing its reorganization this week, although nothing much is changing for Wyoming and Idaho senators.

On Wednesday, Wyoming Senator John Barrasso was unanimously re-elected Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

“Last Congress, our committee passed major bipartisan laws to upgrade America’s water infrastructure and to modernize our nuclear energy sector. These laws will grow our economy, reduce red tape, protect the environment, and help keep communities safe,” said Barrasso.

Idaho Senator Mike Crapo was re-elected Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. Crapo said he would press for legislation that will prevent consumer fraud and identity theft, and reducing regulations that slow economic growth.

Crapo will also serve his second term on the Judiciary Committee, which is responsible for nominations to the Supreme Court and other federal judgeships, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. It also conducts oversight over the Department of Justice, the FBI, and Homeland Security.

And, Wyoming Senior Senator Mike Enzi was reelected Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.
“I am honored to return as chair of the Senate Budget Committee as we focus on addressing the debt and overspending challenges facing our country,” Enzi said. “I will continue to lead the charge to fix the broken budget and spending process and focus on oversight efforts to improve the transparency and efficiency of the federal government.”
