Big excitement over Tiny Houses in Blackfoot
‘Tiny Houses’ are a growing trend nationwide, and they could be coming to Blackfoot. The Tiny House Subdivision Ordinance would kick-start the building of small homes for single-family households. With a severe housing shortage in southeast Idaho, Tiny Houses are thought to be a great solution for the time being.
These single-family homes would be approximately 200 square feet with parking space. Although these homes lack square footage, most people spend their time and money on the interior.
There was some concern over whether these ‘Tiny House’ communities would be similar to an RV park. However, these homes would be stationary and a permanent living solution. Meaning that homeowners would contribute to the Blackfoot tax base.
“It would be hooked up to water and sewer and city services and become apart of our tax base and that’s one of our goals is to have as to keep our tax levy low,” said Kurt Hibbert, Planning Administrator for the City of Blackfoot.
City officials are already meeting with developers to start the project.
Fox Den Living, a company which focuses on small homes, said they’re excited for the chance to install these homes in Blackfoot.
“We built them so they pass all state and local inspections, they’re not like an RV in a sense that they have home components,” said Robb Shirley, Sales & Operations and Co-founder for Fox Den Living. “So they can be lived in all year round, year after year, the only difference is that they’re just smaller.”
