Five finalists named for University of Idaho presidency
The State Board of Education has narrowed its list of finalists to be the 19th President of the University of Idaho.
The board began with over 50 candidates and narrowed that to nine. The semi-finalists were interviewed late last week by a screening committee. Five are now under final consideration.
Christopher Callahan is the Founding Dean of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. He also serves as University Vice-Provost and as Chief Executive Officer of Arizona Public Broadcasting System. The College is among the top ranked schools of journalism in the country and the University is routinely recognized for its entrepreneurship and innovation. U.S. News & World Report recently named ASU #1 in the U.S. for innovation.
Diane Z. Chase currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she is responsible for a budget of $448 million, 1,121 faculty, and serves 30,457 students. During her tenure, UNLV was recently elevated by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education from R2 to an R1 university.
Scott Green is an alumnus of the University of Idaho and a fourth-generation Idahoan. He currently serves as the Global Chief Operating and Financial Officer of Hogan Lovells, a highly ranked international law firm with over 45 offices globally and over $2 billion in total revenue. The firm was recently recognized as the 2nd most innovative law firm in North America and in Europe by Financial Times.
Elizabeth Spiller is Dean of the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Davis. The College is home to more than 900 full-time faculty and serves 14,300 undergraduate majors and 1,600 graduate students. It is the largest College at UC Davis and the University of California System. UC Davis is one of 62 members of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU).
Paul Tikalsky is Dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology at Oklahoma State University. Under his leadership, the College recently raised $110 million from external donors, corporations, and foundations and has advanced 23 positions in U.S. News & World Report’s college rankings. OSU is a land-grant university recognized for being a leader in research impacting health, engineering and the world.
The five finalists are expected to visit the UI campus in Moscow and the University of Idaho Boise Center next week.
The board is also developing a candidate feedback portal on the university website to accept public comments.
