Fire destroys lodge at western Wyoming’s White Pine Ski Area

An investigation is underway after a fire destroyed a lodge at the White Pine Ski Area in western Wyoming.

Mike Petty, a spokesman for the Sublette County Unified Fire District, tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide the lodge near Pinedale caught fire early Friday morning and did not spread to any of the surrounding structures or the forest. No one was injured.

Petty says the person who reported the blaze described it as a wildland fire and thought there was an explosion. But when firefighters arrived, they found the fire confined to the building. Investigators have not yet verified what, if anything, could have caused an explosion.

The Wyoming fire marshal’s office and the Division of Criminal Investigation have not said what caused the fire.
