Ammon Road gets center turn lane
Drivers on Ammon Road noticed a significant change Monday.
The road was striped to add a new center turning lane. It goes from 17th Street to Lincoln Road. The city of Ammon and Bonneville County worked together on the project. They city says this has become one of its busiest streets. There were many reasons why it needed to be done.
“The first is safety. It’s been a two-lane road for a long time and adding the turn lane adds an additional measure of safety for this road,” said Micah Austin, Ammon city administrator. “The second is to accommodate the turning movements off of Ammon Road and on to subdivisions like Bridgewater and some of the other subdivisions on there. And the third one is just circulation. And that’s moving traffic from north to south and south to north.”
The city also plans to improve turning movements at the intersections on 1st and 17th streets.
