Local school districts hosts national teacher conference

Hundreds of educators around Eastern Idaho and the nation are at Thunder Ridge High School in Bonneville County this week.

Bonneville School District 93 and Solution Tree are hosting the Professional Learning Communities at Work Institute.

“You have so many different teachers from all over the U.S. and they come together, and they get to learn from other educators that are in the classrooms or recently were,” said Alex Ostrom, the presenter relations manager for Solution Tree. “People get to take away best practices and strategies they can implement right away.”

Typically, these conferences are held in larger cities, but for the first time, Bonneville School District 93 has brought it to the state of Idaho.

About 700 employees from school District 93 are attending, as well as teachers as far away as Kentucky.

“All the focus is on student learning,” Dr. Scott Woolstenhulme, the Bonneville School District 93 superintendent. “It’s on how can we work together to improve student learning in the district and in our classrooms. There is talk about how can we work together effectively as teams and how do we focus on the right outcomes for student learning.”

The conference will continue at Thunder Ridge High School Thursday and Friday.
