Oil Tanker Fire Closes Hwy 30
A fire on a truck carrying two tanks of oil closed a part of Highway 30 on Thursday afternoon, Idaho State Police said.
The Hansen Oil Company truck was driving east on Highway 30 and had just passed Lava Hot Springs when driver Ronnie Lindstrom said the truck was acting odd. The 64-year-old from Soda Springs pulled over and saw flames coming from the engine.
The fire quickly spread to the first of two oil tanks on the truck before firefighters got there, ISP said. Crews were able to put it out before it spread to the second tank.
Both tanks contained about 4,000 gallons of oil; none spilled out of the tanks during the incident.
The highway was blocked for more than four hours while traffic was diverted onto Blazer Highway around the fire.
