Train Hits, Kills Pedestrian In Caribou County

Idaho State Police and the Caribou County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an accident between a train and a person on Thursday night.

The accident happened in the area of Ivins Road and Old Highway 30 near Bancroft.

According to witnesses, a Union Pacific train was approaching the railroad crossing on Ivins road when a man stepped onto the tracks and was hit by the train.

Matthew Gaither, 51, of Soda Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Caribou County coroner.
