Idaho Business Kicks Off Food Bank Fundraiser

As unemployment numbers have sky-rocketed over the past few years, supplies at food banks have hit historic lows.

One Idaho business is hoping to help with the launch of a huge fundraiser on Monday.

Meridian-based Scentsy Inc. is challenging communities across the state to donate to The Idaho Foodbank throughout the month of August with the Halt The Hunger campaign.

The company has pledged to match every new donation up to $300,000, which could provide 1.8 million meals.

Buck Horton, chairman of the Idaho Falls Community Food Bank, credited stocked shelves to a giving community, but said that’s not the case for all areas, especially in the summer months.

“May, June, July, August and maybe even into September, tend to be very low donation months,” said Horton. “People are not thinking about giving. Needing is 12 month a year thing.”

The campaign runs all month long until Aug. 31.
