Trooper Use PIT Maneuver To Stop Driver On I-15

An Idaho Falls man was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after police chased him on Interstate 15.

Idaho State Police said Tracy Nii, 51, may have had a medical condition when he was seen driving erratically on the freeway north of Blackfoot.

ISP said a motorist reported Nii’s driving behavior near milepost 95. A trooper spotted him at about milepost 104 and started following the 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue.

The trooper chased Nii north towards Idaho Falls. Other officers were able to spike Nii’s tires near exit 113, they said. Nii continued to drive on damaged tires for another 3 miles until an officer used the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) to stop the vehicle near the Sunnyside exit 116.

Nii was taken to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Officers haven’t said what his medical issue was.
